What's Up Weekend is a blog series of Laura's explorations and finds throughout Cleveland, Ohio. Follow along as she helps you plan your weekends with the best spots in town.
I’m a breakfast girl, I admit it. It’s definitely my favorite meal of the day and I always look forward to eating breakfast. When I was a little girl I was usually one of the firsts of my sisters to wake up and I’d immediately want a bowl of cereal.
Not much has changed, to be honest. And thankfully Albert shares my enjoyment of breakfast foods too.
It’s quite typical for us to wake up early (like 6am or so) on a weekend and start planning our days. We’ll usually lounge around in bed for a bit, catch up on Liverpool highlights and scroll through social media before we actually get out of bed. But then, we’ll walk across the street to Blackbird Baking Company, grab two coffees to go and talk a walk around the neighborhood.
It’s one of our favorite things to do. We love walking the streets early in the morning when it’s still quiet and really admiring our town. We love living in Lakewood, it has a lot of what we like: nature, local restaurants, health-minded people, etc.
This past weekend I chose the plan. I said “be ready by 9am, we’re going to breakfast.” We left the apartment and walked to Cleveland Vegan.
I like the way the menu here is laid out. You can get a 3-course breakfast for $20 or do things a la carte. After discussing it we decided to go with the 3-course breakfast & then some. This was my first time eating here and so I really wanted to experience the Cleveland Vegan vibe. Plus, Albert and I share most of what we eat. So I knew I wasn’t going to be alone in this eating adventure.
We decided to get the Chai Spiced Granola Parfait, Mashed Potato Cakes, Breakfast Sandwich & the Samoa Pancakes.
We got the parfait first and took a second glance at one another. This isn’t the way we typically make our parfaits so we were a bit hesitant. We were thinking, where’s the yogurt or milk? Yes, it’s a vegan restaurant but, we’re all the way down with coconut yogurt & milk over here.
Nonetheless, we dug in and really liked it! The only thing we wished is that there was more of it! The granola was so good and the strawberries were a great addition. It was just the right mix of crunchiness, smoothness & sweetness. Next up, we feast!
Girl. Everything here was so good! The breakfast sandwich was great, especially with the lentil sausage patty. And I am in love with the mashed potato cakes. They were both seasoned to perfection. And that ranch though? Don’t skip the ranch, I beg of you.
But, can we move on to the main attraction? The Samoa pancakes were my favorite. Albert thought they were far too rich and he couldn’t finish his 1/2 (don’t worry, I helped out) but he didn’t think they were good. I, on the other hand, didn’t find them to be too rich but I do have a bit of a sweet tooth. I thought the pancakes were a perfect consistency and they didn’t need anything else on them.
Albert wanted a little bit of maple syrup but, I could’ve done without that part. I thought they were great as is and would definitely recommend getting this next time I go.
Overall I really enjoyed Cleveland Vegan. I think it’s a great concept and I love that there were so many options to choose from. Not to mention their entire dessert counter that I put blinders on to avoid as we left. We’d like to consider ourselves a type of breakfast guru around here and we’d put Cleveland Vegan on the list of places to visit, for sure.
