6 Content Ideas For Your Next Newsletter

How many times have you sat down to write a newsletter to your email list and you've just stared at the annoying blinking cursor?
As creatives, we can be really great at talking about our craft, talents, services & offerings.
But, when it comes to actually talking about ourselves, our journey, fears, challenges, successes?
That's where things get a bit tricky.
And maybe you're even in the boat of thinking, "well, I have a blog, podcast, Facebook group & Instagram - what more can I possibly say in my newsletter?"
My answer? A lot.
Your newsletter is like inviting someone into your home.
They've trusted you enough to sign up for your list, they want to hear what you have to say and they want it without all the other noises distracting them.
For example, let's say you saw a car commercial, a Facebook ad about that same car and a friend told you about her experience with that car.
When you walk into the car dealership to test drive that car and find out more about it on a personal level - you'd still want the car salesman to come and talk to you directly, right?
It's a very similar situation for your creative business and your newsletters.
But, I have a little secret I'd like to share with you.
You've probably already created the content for your next email - just on a different platform.
Whoever in the world said that you can't reuse content must have had a plethora of time & ideas with nothing better to do.
But, I have a feeling that that's not you.
You have a life you want to live. A family to see. A partner to love. Friends to laugh with. Children to play with. Places to see. And things to do.
So, why are we reinventing the wheel when it comes to our email newsletter content?
Here are a few great ideas for repurposing your content for your future emails:
1. In person conversations: you have those core people in your life that you talk shop with. Maybe you're sharing a new idea, talking about something that happened in your business or sharing a struggle you're currently going through. These conversations also serve as great newsletter pieces.
2. A recent blog post: if you think that everyone is seeing your blog all the time, I'm very sorry for this rude awakening but, that's simply not true. Have a blog post you're exceptionally proud of or know that it will be of great value? Share an excerpt in your email and link them over to your site to read the rest.
3. Social media posts: today there is a lot of advice out there about how you should be spending a good chunk of time writing thoughtful social media posts. If this is something you're currently doing in your business, why not get the most out of your content? Share that caption in your newsletter and expand on a few of the ideas. Again, everyone may not see each social media post you share.
4. Podcast episode: Did you release a podcast episode that received a lot of positive feedback? Use that message or theme for your next newsletter content. Some people prefer reading over listening - plus, it's a great way to market that you have a podcast and take them back over to your show!
5. Current obsessions: I recently shared with you a few things that I've been reading or hearing about lately. I love receiving those letters in my inbox. It makes the conversation a bit more personal and I've always learned about a new blog, podcast, book or person from those letters. Give it a try!
6. A future product or service idea: I can be the first one to admit that I've blindly created something believing that it would be a hit. And when it came to launching it out into the world, I got full-on crickets and no sales. Rather than be embarrassed or quit altogether, I realized that my newsletter is a great way to pulse the idea into the hands of my most treasured audience - you! Why not share an idea for a future gathering, coaching service or product and ask if this is something they'd be interested in hearing more about?
If you're stuck with what to write in your next newsletter, give these tips a try and see how they feel in your business. There are definitely no right or wrong answers when it comes to what you share in your letters. It's all about what feels best for you when writing them and if they provide value to your readers.
